When fashion mobilizes to fight against the coronavirus epidemic

While the world has been affected by Covid-19 for several months, the fashion industry has decided to commit to fighting the epidemic. Focus on the projects put in place by the fashion world to slow the spread of the virus.

Valentino

Thursday, April 30, Valentino unveils its #ValentinoEmpathy project on the initiative of its artistic director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Its concept: to transform the brand's fall-winter 2020-2021 campaign into a charity project aimed at supporting the Roman Spallanzani hospital with a donation of 1 million euros. Funds that will be collected thanks to the protagonists of this campaign who have all agreed to offer their fees in favor of the project. Or a panel of artists, models and friends of the house of world renown which includes among others Adut Akech, Anwar Hadid, Christy Turlington, Gwyneth Paltrow, James Turlington, Laetitia Casta, Laura Dern, Leon Dame, Naomi Campbell, Rossy de Palma or Vittoria Ceretti. The advertising campaign will be shot at the place where the artists are experiencing this difficult moment and will be presented in the form of a collection of portraits made by a person around them who will then be credited.

Hermès

The French house is committed to donating 20 million euros to the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris. A generous donation in addition to previous solidarity actions carried out by Hermès. Indeed, its Parfum du Vaudreuil site donated more than 30 tons of hydroalcoholic solution, while various company entities donated 31,000 masks. This action will be supplemented by support for health services provided locally by its subsidiaries around the world.

Loewe

Faced with the coronavirus, Loewe is committed to donating 40 euros to the Plataforma de Infancia association for each product sold from its Paula's Ibiza collection. An initiative that follows an initial donation of 500,000 euros made by the fashion house. Most ? Loewe donates 100,000 surgical masks to the Spanish Red Cross. “Aware that protective aids are extremely important in curbing pandemics, Loewe produces non-surgical masks at its factory in Getafe. The masks must be distributed to volunteers, Loewe employees and their families”, explain Mrs. Pascale Lepoivre and Jonathan Anderson, artistic director of the brand.

Kering

To help Italy, which has been battling the virus for several weeks, Kering is mobilizing. In a joint action with all of the group's brands that operate in Italy, the group is donating 2 million euros to numerous local care organizations, all based in four areas where Kering brands are present in Italy (in the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany and Lazio).

LVMH

The number 1 luxury group in the world is also helping out. Thus, LVMH undertakes to monopolize three of its French perfume and cosmetics production sites (Christian Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy) to produce hydroalcoholic gel “in large quantities”. These gels will then be distributed free of charge to many French hospitals, such as Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, which will see 39 of its hospitals supplied from Monday March 16. On April 10, one of the group's houses, Louis Vuitton, announced that it was mobilizing its Parisian ready-to-wear workshop to help make gowns for AP-HP hospitals.

Chanel

Faced with the Covid-19 epidemic, the fashion house ensures that it does not resort to partial unemployment: it will maintain 100% of the remuneration of its 8,500 employees until May 8 . In a process of national solidarity, Chanel is committed to the tune of 1.2 million euros to hospital structures and services through financial contributions to the emergency fund created by the Fondation de l'assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris to the Georges Pompidou Foundation and the SAMU services. The house has also donated 50,000 masks to hospital staff and is now mobilizing its manufacturers to make new ones, which are in the process of being approved.

Gucci

In the fight against the pandemic, the Italian luxury house Gucci announces a donation of 2 million euros to two crowdfunding campaigns. Gucci is also calling on its global community to stand with it "to raise funds for the benefit of health services to provide them with medical equipment as well as fund researchers working on vaccines and treatments." On this subject, Alessandro Michele (Artistic Director of Gucci) and Marco Bizzarri (CEO of Gucci) declared: “This pandemic calls us to an unprecedented task, but we respond to it with firmness by supporting the selfless work carried out by health professionals, doctors and nurses every day to fight against COVID-19, in Italy as in the rest of the world”. \

Prada

In the fight against the Covid-19 virus, artistic director Miuccia Prada and her husband Patrizio Bertelli (CEO of the Prada group) as well as Carlo Mazzi (Chairman of the group) are mobilizing and offering thus - on a personal basis - a donation of two intensive care and resuscitation units for three hospitals in Milan: Vittore Buzzi, Sacco and San Raffaele.

Mayhoola

The parent group of Valentino, Balmain and Pal Zileri is committed to supporting two projects to help Italy which is fighting against the coronavirus, through a donation of 2 million euros: two separate donations were made, one for Ospedale Sacco and the other for Protezione Civile Italiana. Thanks to this, the organization led by the royal family of Qatar wishes to improve the efficiency and safety of hospitals in Milan, but also of nursing staff. “We are very close to the Italian population and we are constantly monitoring the evolution of the pandemic in the country. We are saddened to see what is happening in Milan and we sincerely hope that this decisive action can help the doctors and their teams at Sacco Hospital,” said the spokesperson for Mayhoola. The Mayhoola Group has also donated one million in the development of the emergency department of the IFEMA hospital in Madrid with the aim of receiving patients with the virus.

Chloé

To pay tribute to the medical staff who have been fighting against Covid-19 for several months, Chloé is mobilizing in the production and distribution of medical gowns. These will be offered to Parisian hospitals. A project in collaboration with the many partners of the great French house. In addition to this initiative, Chloé will donate fabrics to Atelier Lazar Cuckovic which has partnered with Parisian hospitals in response to the great shortage of medical gowns.

Moncler

On March 17, 2020, the luxury brand Moncler formalized in a press release its commitment to the fight against the virus. His contribution? Faced with the epidemic, Nike, its leaders and the Nike Foundation are uniting. Together, they raise more than 15 million dollars for the fight against Covid-19. Donatella Versace, artistic director of the Italian house Versace, as well as her daughter Allegra Versace Beck, decide to slow down in the face of the epidemic. The two women announced a donation of 200,000 euros to the “San Raffaele Anesthesia and Intensive Care” hospital in Milan. In an official press release, the two women explain this gesture: “During this period, it is important to be united to help those who need it, and who fight every day to save lives. […] Our hearts go out to the sick people, doctors and hospital staff who have been working tirelessly and heroically for several weeks to protect those we love”.
