Lenzing leaves Chinese collaboration for sustainable viscose

Lenzing Nanjing Fibers (LNF), a subsidiary of the Lenzing group, decided to leave Chinese collaboration for the sustainable development of viscose (CV).The company now wanted to "continue its own sustainable development program".

This will imply to try to respect the European standard Bat (Best available technologies), a path to the manufacture of viscose in closed loop, which according to the NGO Changing Markets is currently the most ambitious directive for a cleaner manufacturing ofviscose. Many major clothing brands would be in favor of this standard.

The Chinese initiative relating to viscose originally included ten viscose producers in China uniting their efforts to make industry more sustainable. However, despite the international launch, a recent report claims that Chinese viscose factories that have subscribed to a large -scale initiative in favor of the sustainability of the industry continue to violate government regulations. The Changing Markets Foundation argued that the collaboration for the sustainable development of viscose has important shortcomings.
