Roubignoles, kiwis, waltzes, purses... whatever name you give them, know that the testicles are often neglected and yet they are essential for making a baby!

The testicles produce hundreds of millions of sperm every day.

The role of the testicles is indeed to produce male hormones but also spermatozoa (which are counted at more than 200 million each day from puberty). It is therefore not recommended for men to wear clothes that are too tight or tight-fitting briefs, which can affect the production of spermatozoa.

The testicles do not like the heat too much

In men, the reproductive organs are outside the body (unlike the ovaries in women) for a good reason: to function properly, they need a temperature of around 34°C, not 37°C, the average body temperature.

One of the two testicles can remain inside

10 choses à savoir sur les testicules

In utero, the testicles are located inside the body of the fetus. Just before birth, they descend to just below the penis. However, in 5% of cases, only one of the two testicles descended at birth. We then speak of cryptorchidism. No worries if you are parents and your child is concerned. Things often settle down within the first three months. If this is not the case, hormone treatment or surgery may be necessary to lower the second testicle to avoid possible complications such as reduced fertility or increased risk of cancer.

The biggest testicles in the world weighed 60 kilos

Wesley Warren Jr, from Nevada, USA, caught the world's attention with his extremely rare condition, scrotal lymphedema, which caused his scrotum to swell to a weight of around 60 kg. A documentary, called "The Man with the 10-Stone Testicles", which recounts his fight against his illness, was filmed and broadcast on American television. Sadly, he passed away in 2014 as a result of his illness. Rest assured, this fact is extremely rare. More generally, without pathology, the testicles look more like pigeon eggs and their size is on average 3 to 4 centimeters high, 2 to 2.5 centimeters wide for an average weight of 18 grams. Note that their shape and size have no impact on male fertility!

Men always have one testicle lower than the other.

In 65% of men, the right testicle is higher than the left. The testicles are indeed most of the time asymmetrical... as is sometimes the case for women's breasts.

The testicles do not stay in place

Under the effect of certain phenomena, such as stress, sexual intercourse, heat, cold, the testicles can move and change in volume. This allows them to ensure homeostasis, that is to say to keep a uniform temperature essential for the production of spermatozoa. On the other hand, if the testicle rises too high under the abdomen, a small surgical intervention may be considered, so as not to interfere with intercourse and avoid testicular torsion.

Watch out for testicular torsion

If a sudden pain arises in the testicles, it's a bad sign. It may be a torsion of the vessels that connect the testicles to the pelvis. In that case, head to the emergency room! We must act quickly to avoid necrosis of the testicle.

The testicles are the third erogenous zone in men.

The testicles are often left behind during somersaults. After the penis and the mouth, however, they are the third most sensitive area in men. They are therefore no longer forgotten during your next sexual intercourse!

Testicular cancer is most common in men aged 15 to 35

Each year in France, nearly 2,000 testicular cancers are recorded. This cancer generally strikes men under 40 and thus represents a third of cancers in young men. On the other hand, it represents only 1 to 2% of male cancers, all ages combined. In this context, men are strongly advised to self-examine once a month to check that no unusual size or heaviness is bothering them.
