Surgères: a man caught taking pictures under the skirt of a customer at the supermarket

It was without a lawyer and evoking an "offbeat act", that Jean-Marc, close to fifty, factory manager in Vendée, appeared at the La Rochelle judicial court to answer questions from the president of the correctional hearing this Monday, July 6.

On September 6, 2019, he left his job heading to Charente. “In the evening we were to celebrate the fiftieth birthday of a friend”. He decides to stop around 7 p.m. in Surgères and enters the Intermarché.

At the bends of the rays, his path crosses that of Véronique several times. And with fruits and vegetables, the teacher will feel a hand brush against one of her calves.

Crouched behind the victim

Turning around she surprises Jean-Marc squatting behind her, his cell phone in his hand set to mirror mode and aiming for the underside of her skirt.

Panicked, Jean-Marc takes to his heels, with four condoms, which he had stolen and put in his jacket pocket.

The next day Véronique gets back in touch with the store. Intermarché video surveillance then shows Jean-Marc following the victim on the shelves, for nearly 45 minutes, and crouching behind her, phone in hand, several times.

To explain his gesture, he specifies, “I was attracted to this lady. I had seen him in a skirt. It was euphoric. I apologize. It was an offbeat act."

But the behavior of the defendant at the bar annoys both the court and the public prosecutor. “Did you have an urge? Are you a predator?

A form of denial that the president of the court did not support. “As of tomorrow morning, you will run to a shrink! "

Six months in prison with obligation of care

The civil party by the voice of master Julien Guillard is affirmative: “he had found a prey. He was not in seduction mode, but rather had a disturbing impulse that day. And yet, what could be less sexy than the Intermarché de Surgères. If he hadn't been grilled by the victim, then perhaps he would have waited for him at the exit of the store”.

And to add, “I fear for the women you employ. I did not feel you were sincere in your remarks”.

The public prosecutor Dominique-Emilie Chevalier will not be lost in conjectures and will ask, "six months of prison, accompanied by a probationary stay for a duration of two years, with an obligation of care".

Eventually, the court reduced the quantum of the sentence to four months. In addition to his duty of care, the factory manager is ordered to compensate his victim and pay his legal fees.
