As a reminder and info

If you regularly read this blog, the extension name of this jacket will remind you that of the C5 Gore-Tex Infinium Soft Lined Thermo Bike model. So let's say that here we go a little on the same thing but in running version and without the hot part.

"Infinium" always means a set of technologies that must combine water resistance, protection in front of wind, comfort and breathability."Soft Lined" indicates that the external membrane is doubled with a gentle layer inside.

For the sake of simplicity, for the rest of this article, we will simply say R5 Infinium 😉

The Running Gore R5 Infinium jacket

I find that a certain class emerges from this Gore Wear jacket. This because of its sobriety and its appearance given by the infinium membrane which, once again, remindsses leather.I say "again" because that is what I had indicated for the bicycle jacket.

Here, however, this is a little less the case because we are on something less thick.Besides, we can see and we feel the mesh that makes up the interior lining. It remains a material that I find pleasant to touch.

A large zip allows the jacket closing and a small protection is of course the game to prevent the self -locking cursor from hurting the chin.

2 large pockets are present, each with a zipper. This is lighter zip, even if it is qualitative we feel that you will have to be a little more attention.Cash -leather sashboards facilitate handling and flaps allow you to hide the sliders when the pockets are closed.Although we are not on waterproof closures, I think they are there to limit the intrusion of fleet in case of rain.

In each pocket there is a piece of elastic with a greenhouse. This allows you to adjust the bottom of the jacket. We do not notice the presence of this system as a result but I find it not bad, nothing drags.

The right pocket incorporates a compartment for MP3 player, see smartphone even if the latter will fit in force according to its size. There is also a passage for headphones.

In the one on the left, we can see that the cursor also has a shot inside. It simply indicates that it is possible to store the jacket in this pocket. It is indeed quite compressible and very easy to fold. However, it will be less compact than a more classic waterproof jacket.

The end of the sleeves extends to protect a little more the external side of the wrist.Internal face we have a more stretch room.We will see a little further what it is for 😉

The hood is not adjustable, very round in shape and with an elastic contour.

Contrary to what is said on the brand's site, I do not see reflective elements on the surface of this R5 INIFINIUM.The markings seem to me to be simple white serigraphs.

Regarding the lining, according to the "soft lined", we could expect something very sweet and there, I find that this is not especially the case.Well, we are not on sandpaper and it is not aggressive under the fingers.Sweetness we have especially at the level of the collar and pockets.

This jacket is not intended to be completely waterproof and it shows when you look at the seams from the inside. We can see day through certain points (in the photo the "holes" seem bigger than they really are).

In any case we feel that we are on a quality product and that makes you want to be worn.

Running gore r5 infinium jacket in action

For my 82 meter and my 78kg I took this Infinium R5 jacket in size L.Although I don't make me bigger, it's just limited to shoulder levels. This is not the first time that I have the case for a running jacket. In general it is not cut for a little square guys.

Also, at Gore, I have the impression that the Running range is narrower on the top of the bust than the cycle range on equal size.In my case, once completely closed, I feel a slight compression in the throat and it shoots on the shoulders if I hold my arms or lifts them. The collar climbs quite high and, if I lower my head I have the chin which comes to come up against the cursor (hence the interest of protection).

At least, I am not particularly embarrassed and, of course, all this is related to my morphology and will not be the case for everyone.

If you are cut older, less in V, you will certainly be more comfortable. The front will be less tense and your chin should pass behind the collar rather than typing in.If someone has tried this jacket (see another from the brand's running range) and can confirm or deny it all in the comments it would be great 😉

On the other hand in the sleeves, I note something we will have, I think, all the right. The opening of the latter is quite narrow and the stretch piece described above is there to allow the hand passage. If our mimines still pass quite easily, whether it is one way or the other, if you wear a watch, this is where you will appreciate less.

It will be difficult for you to take it out to take a look and it will block a little when removing the jacket.Same thing if you wear one or more bracelets, you will have to be careful not to tear them off.

Comfort

These first observations being made and, if I spread these few inconveniences partly linked to my extraordinary physique, well this infinium r5 jacket is pleasant to wear 🙂

It is light, flexible, protects a minimum of the cold but without holding excessively hot.

I used it on outings up to 40km as well as on fractional in cool weather and there is one thing that I really appreciate: its breathability. As it is not a 100% waterproof jacket you don't feel drip as not possible inside and that's very cool. Thanks to this and the “fabric” lining, we also escape the jacket that sticks to the skin.

As far as I'm concerned, I found it sufficient/bearable over a t-shirt for temperatures ranging from about 5 to 12 ° C.

Facing the elements

Living by the sea, I am lucky to have a wind often and I can say that under these conditions it is effective.

For the rain on the other hand I did not have a deluge during my tests but only of the bruine and a few showers. There too it does the job very well but, just to see a little more, I spent a round under the tap.The water slides on the membrane and does not enter it (to see after several minutes, hours ...).Well, except by the seams since they are not waterproof.Suddenly there is a way to get a little saved anyway before being bored 😉

The hood is easy to set up but, with its round shape it can be a little head of b *** 😆

Above all, as it is not adjustable, it can sometimes go down a little on the eyes or be embarrassing if you turn your head.It may be missing an inner headband as we sometimes see.

Practical pockets

The side pockets of this running jacket are spacious and, beyond putting your hands when waiting in the cold that the whole group is ready to start running (dedication to the friends of Ouirun La Rochelle), they allow to transportsome things.

Honestly, I thought what I was going to put it was going to walk around in all directions but in fact no.Of course with a little heavy and/or bulky stuff there is a little bounce but nothing too annoying. This may be less true if you run on.From the front lamp with 350ml flask, I found it very practical.

These pockets are also ideal if you want to have a slightly more “daily” use of the jacket.

Resistant but ...

Gore indicates on its product sheet that the R5 infinium can be used with a backpack.By that I think they hear "trail bag" and, after several outings with something like, I have nothing to declare!

At the start of my trip to Cambodia for Angkor's ultra trail, I wore this jacket to go to the station.I then had a backpack loaded with photo, computer and company gear as well as a big travel bag on the shoulder.I admit that by walking through the few kilometers that separated me from the station, I was not super confident about the membrane resistance in front of my Barda. In the end, I barely find a trace of friction 🙂

This jacket therefore seems rather resistant to external aggressions even if it is certainly not to throw ourselves with in the brambles.Besides, no need to go wrong to damage it because I noticed a hitch on the strip behind the zipper. One day I had to wedge the cursor on it, closing the jacket and that's.

Otherwise, apart from wearing heavy bags, I went well too close to a wall, a branch or that kind of things and so far..

My opinion on this R5 Infinium Soft Linede

Neither completely waterproof nor thermal but wind-winding, water resistant and very breathable, this gore r5 gore-tex infinium soft lined does not really fit in a box.But it is, for me, a very good running jacket.A new version with some corrections that can of course be even better 🙂

Comfortable, pleasant to wear despite some perfectible points such as the hood or the opening of the sleeves (not to mention of course the inconveniences when you do not have the physique of the typical runner).Practical by its pockets, lightness and compressibility.Qualitative manufacturing and resistance that seems good. Its purchase should however be well reflected because it is displayed at the recommended public price of € 299!

It is able to face the rain very properly but is not 100% waterproof and therefore does not meet the criteria of certain races like the UTMB.If you wanted to invest in this I think that it is not the right choice (there, while staying at Gore, you will have to go on the R7).

On the other hand, if you are looking for a jacket for outings in cool or cold weather (just adapt what you put below), to run in the wind and take some showers on the face, there, you can go!I find it much more pleasant to use than a traditional waterproof jacket. It is more breathable and does not stick to the skin.

In the end it is a very versatile jacket and all this in fact may even be my favorite running jacket.

We have seen it, the pricing but we are clearly on a high -end product. If you are interested and you have the means, I want to say: go for it!And then looking a little, we must be able to obtain it with a reduction 😉
